Dawn Ortiz-Legg

Dawn Ortiz-Legg was born and raised in rural Illinois and has lived in San Luis Obispo for 28 years, contributing to her community while working in energy, infrastructure and economic development.   She earned a Bachelor of Arts from Pepperdine University, and a Master of International Public Policy from Johns Hopkins School of Advanced International Studies.  In 2018, she joined Pacific Gas & Electric to coordinate maintenance and infrastructure projects in San Luis Obispo, Santa Cruz, San Benito, Monterey and Santa Barbara Counties.

Ortiz-Legg is best known in her community for implementing California’s renewable energy policy to positively impact and improve people’s lives. The development and construction of multiple utility-scale solar projects created hundreds of jobs and long-term opportunities for central coast residents and businesses.

In 2016, Ortiz-Legg was the endorsed Democratic candidate for 35th Assembly District. She earned more votes and raised more funds than any other Democrat in the last 40 years trying to change the Red seat to Blue.

In 2018, Supervisor Adam Hill appointed Ortiz-Legg as the 3rd District Planning Commissioner to make land use decisions on water, agriculture, energy and transportation.

On November 20, 2020, Ortiz-Legg was appointed by Governor Gavin Newsom to the District 3 Supervisorial Seat vacated by the late Adam Hill.  Her priorities in this seat are maintaining a family friendly county. This includes:  the economic repurposing of Diablo Canyon  Nuclear Power Plant, along with safe decommissioning, housing and homelessness, and childcare availability.
